Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff believes that Mesut Ozil wil develop as a player following his move to Arsenal.
The
24-year-old sealed a €50 million deadline day move to the Emirates from
Real Madrid after falling down the Santiago Bernabeu pecking order.
While
the legendary striker acknowledges that the former Werder Bremen star
has moved to a less glamorous club, he feels the switch will prove
invaluable with the 2014 World Cup looming.
"I'm happy for Mesut
that he has found a great club, even when Arsenal might be not as shiny
as Real is. He will develop there and take more responsibilities," he
said at a press conference.
"It's an important step for him,
especially in a World Cup year. In today's football world, everything
moves fast. When a new coach arrives, a lot of things change.
"This
is no drama, it's usual business. If such a club as Arsenal and such a
coach as Arsene Wenger want you, no matter what, it gives you a
confidence boost."
Ozil is set to make his debut for Arsenal
against Sunderland following an international break which should see him
feature against Austria and Faroe Islands
